): More than respect for him is absolute heartbreak. He shouldn’t be, nor have to be, pushing himself this hard.
While I understand why, in the incredibly competitive climate of k-pop, Kai feels the need to push himself - or management feels the need to push him - it still pisses me off that it has to be that way.
He may rationalise it as his own decision, that he wants to dance, but that decision is still a result of how the entertainment industry works. Kai’s determination and talent has brought him to where he is today—as it is with every other successful k-pop idol—but his determination is also what might make him push himself too far, so that injury makes him unable to use his talent. Or worse, push himself so far that he loses sight of his own best interest entirely.
I have students like this - incredibly ambitious and always pushing themselves to the limit - and I worry about Kai just as I worry about them. And I suspect his managers might do well to worry a bit more. I’m sure they have the best interest of EXO in mind, but there are risks you should take, and ones you should not. And no, I’m not talking about the immediate risk of worsening pain. It’s not his back they should be worried about.
